At the beginning of the 2000s, our phones were bulky Nokias with a pin pad, a foldable Motorola, a Sony walkman phone, or maybe a Blackberry with a full keyboard if you were cool. Cell phones still seemed to be fresh and new and impressive. But now, in this new decade, we are familiar with the newest gadgets within a month of them coming out, and can never quite seem to be impressed for long. That being said, 2020 is looking like a year that will not let us down in terms of cell phone advancements. For starters, providers are going to continue to expand their 5G capabilities. Many people are unaware of the intricacies or specifics of what 5G is, but here are some of its implications for you! Expanding the use and availability of 5G will make downloading large files like movies or apps incredibly fast, almost instant. It also means near perfect displays during video calls and incredible graphics during streaming games or VR experiences. Other impressive changes coming this year include stunning 200 megapixel cameras that have telephoto lenses and 5x zoom capability. Perhaps the most awaited improvement coming in 2020 is the reality of foldable phones! These advancements have been rumored, speculated, and anxiously anticipated for a few years, and now they are finally becoming real. Though these foldable phone models will be anywhere from $1,500-$2,500, they will surely be beyond impressive and captivating for their proud owners. A quick word of caution about these models, the screens will be made of plastic, and will therefore be much more vulnerable to breaking and scratching, so use caution if you are fortunate enough to have one in 2020! So here’s to being impressed in 2020, we can’t wait to see what cell phones will look like in another decade.
