CONSTRUCTION IT CASE STUDY

Allied Fire Protection: Restoring a Productive IT Environment

Project account provided and approved by Adam Pittman, Computerbilities. Published September 16, 2026.

Computerbilities has supported Allied Fire Protection for more than 20 years. The relationship began when slow network, internet, server, and workstation performance was making everyday work frustrating and inefficient.

Watch: A more productive IT environment

In this one-minute case study, see how Computerbilities addressed Allied Fire Protection’s underlying IT problems and later matched workstations to the software its employees used.

AI-presented explainer based on the client experience confirmed by Adam Pittman. The initial problems described occurred at the start of a relationship spanning more than 20 years.

Computerbilities has worked with Allied Fire Protection for more than twenty years. When they first contacted us, their network, internet, server, and computers were slow.

Our investigation found a compromised server, firewall configuration problems, and workstations that were not properly specified for AutoCAD.

We backed up their business files, reimaged the server, and corrected the firewall configuration.

Later, when they refreshed their computers, we selected equipment around the software their employees actually used. The result was a more productive working environment.

The lesson for contractors is straightforward: investigate what is causing the problem before deciding what to replace. Address the underlying issues, and choose technology that supports the work your people need to do.

Looking beyond the symptoms

Our investigation uncovered more than aging equipment or a slow internet connection. An unauthorized party had compromised Allied’s server. Firewall and server configuration problems had left systems exposed to external access.

We also identified a separate issue affecting employees’ work: their workstations were not appropriately specified for AutoCAD’s requirements. Addressing the security incident alone would not resolve that equipment mismatch.

Restoring systems and planning appropriate upgrades

Computerbilities backed up Allied’s business files, reimaged the server, and corrected the firewall configuration to address the problems we identified and get the company back on track.

When Allied later refreshed its computers, we specified workstations around the requirements of the software employees actually used, including AutoCAD. This made the equipment refresh a practical business decision based on workload and suitability.

Connecting better IT to productive work

The result was a more productive working environment. The engagement addressed both the compromised infrastructure and the workstation limitations that had contributed to a difficult technology experience.

For a contractor, time spent struggling with systems takes attention away from project work. This case illustrates how investigating underlying problems—and choosing equipment suited to the job—can support productivity and help protect the value of employees’ working time.

More than two decades later, Computerbilities continues to support Allied Fire Protection.
